Substance Use Treatment & Long-Term Recovery
We offer a comprehensive addiction treatment plan at Coldwater Direct Primary Care which follows the American Society of Addiction Medicine treatment guidelines to reduce cravings and relapses. Because drug addiction is typically a chronic disorder characterized by occasional relapses, a short-term, one-time treatment is usually not sufficient. For many, treatment is a long-term process that involves multiple interventions and regular monitoring.
This program requires abstinence from other addictive or abused substances such as alcohol and marijuana. Patients on chronic benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, etc.) will need to slowly taper off these under the physician's supervision.
Medication assisted treatment (MAT) includes treatment with:
- Buprenorphine (brand name- Suboxone, Sublocade, Butrans)
- Naltrexone (brand name- Vivitrol, Revia)
- Semaglutide (brand name- Ozempic)
- Acamprosate (brand name- Campral)
- Antabuse
We do not prescribe methadone. Our addiction treatment includes assistance with placement into Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) if needed, assistance with finding peer substance meetings (eg- Smart Recovery, Recovery Dharma, NA/AA), and care coordination with a certified recovery counselor.
